2000 GMC Yukon Brake lights

when i apply my foot to the brake my lights come on for a second then go out. If I release the brake pedal about a 1/2 and inch, the lights come on.

What could be causing this

could be misadjusted brake light switch, located above brake pedal under driver dash.
