When I am pulling my trailer with or without my atv's, the front end shakes pretty bad. The first time it did this, the check engine light came on, so I took it to a GM dealer. They said it needed a complete tuneup. They replaced spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, plug wires, flushed transmission, and all other routine checks to sell their $800 tuneup. As soon as I hooked up the trailer again, I had the same problem, but the check engine light no longer comes on. I don't know where to start, or even what the problem may be, and I'm trying to avoid taking it back for them to charge me an arm and a leg. Any suggestions?

Where do you feel the shaking the most, in the steering or the seat? Keep in mind, when you have the trailer on, there is less weight on the front and more on the rear.

Let me know.

To answer your question. The whole front end seems to shake, so I guess I feel it more in the steering. Also, to get into more detail, it seems to be worse when going uphill, and the engine will bog down sometimes when this happens. It just seems like it wont accelerate when I press on the gas. When I'm not pulling a load, it seems to run fine. Although, the other day when I was not pulling anything, I gave it some gas to accelerate to pass someone, it acted like this (engine wouldnt accelerate and it started shaking). I immediately let off the gas, and when I pushed the accelerator again, it was fine. First time this happened without pulling my trailer. I'm stumped.

It sounds like a major engine miss that could cause the vibration that you feel. Has the check engine light come on? Have you ever checked fuel pump pressure? When was the last tune up and fuel filter?

LEt me know if you need directions for how to check different things. At this point, I am thinking about the fuel pump. It could cause the miss and lack of power.

Just for the heck of it, here is the how to for checking it. Check it and let me know what you find.

ALso, you will need a fuel pressure gauge. Most parts stores will lend or rent one.
