1996 GMC Truck V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I installed a new distributor but can't get check eng light to stay out. the code is p1345,crankshaft to camshaft corelation. that sounds like timing to me. how can i be sure dist is in correct position withouit the high dollar scanner?

Pull NO.1 plug rotate till compression felt ie. finger in hole then line up crank with O. align DIST indent hole on gear with paint mark see diagram

Use screwdriver to align oil pump shaft to DIST with rotor in pre install position see diagram

drop in DIST MUST be aligned as in installed diagram
