Hi, I have a 93 gmc sierra stepside, five speed. It is difficult to get into fourth gear, and then pops out of gear. All of the other gears work just fine. Could this be a slave cylinder problem?

I do notice a whine sort of like a power steering pump going out, but the power steering pump is fine and the noise goes away once shifted to third gear, any ideas.

I think you have got a bad synchronizer, and probably a badly worn 4th gear. The whine that you hear is probably a bearing noise. You are going to need to pull out and rebuild your trans.
