the gas tank gauge quit functioning last time i filled up my tank all the way on a long trip. now the needle goes up a little or not at all and only once in a while... most of the time its on the empty line. what could be causing this?

faulty fuel gauge sending unit located in fuel tank will normally be the cause of this issue
