2003 GMC Sonoma 3rd door latch problem

I can no longer open the 3rd door behind the driver's seat because it appears that the connection has broken. The handle flops loosely. The door is in a closed position. How do I repair this?

You need to gain access to the latch assembly, which requires removal of the inner door panel. They pop on, should be a few screws near the arm rests, but for the most part it pops on and off
