When I drive, the RPMS will jump say from 3000 to 6000 RPMS when getting on the freeway or when I get around 40 M.P.H. Sometimes the RPMS will come back down and will be okay but lately the frequency of this occurance has become worse. Is this a transmission problem or fuel filter problem ? Also the service engine soon light is on.

First thing you need to do is have the codes read, Autozone does it free, Post the results with the code number(s). Even if the service engine light is not on, there should be freeze frame data stored.
