Transmission problem
1997 GMC Sonoma 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

This is an automatic GMC but when put into "D" it wont move, you have to manually shift from low 1, then 2, and so on to make it move. what could cause this, is it the transmition itself? I have some people saying it COULD be a govenor or COULD be the linkage. how do i know if it is one of these or the tranny itself?

yes it could be the govenor, but if it was you wouldn't shift to 2nd. As this is an electrically operated trans, take it to a trans guy who can put his computer on it and see if there is something else wrong which there probably is.
