All my guages work, tach, fuel odo etc just speedometer not, sometimes it will go up to 30k when I know I am well above that, passing cars going 100k

There is a technical service bulletin (TSB) for this issue. You should contact the GMC division at 1-866-996-9463 and ask them how to repair the TSB # 07187C, issued on March 20, 2009.
