Transmission just went out on 2002 GMC Z71 4-wheel drive truck with only 60,000 miles. No warning. Loud clunk and now only couple gears and no reverse. What could have went wrong and what should I do, rebuild ( remanufactured ) or new or could it be something small ?

these transmissions are pretty much bulletproof but from what your describing its internal and will need rebuilding. if it was a transfer case problem it would still have forward gears. on this model if cost is a issue then i would have no problem installing a used transmission from the salvage yard because they are so reliable.
