My 2001 GMC Sierra (about 130k miles) is intermittently (becoming more frequent) stalling at idle. Generally if it starts ok at first I will not have any problem on that trip but if it starts and stalls then I will have to ride the gas pedal to keep the rpms up. I'm thinking fuel pump but would like a second opinion before I start shotgunning the problem. Thanks!

Hi Greg,
Some things to check first would be fuel pressure regultor or vacuum leaks. Inspect the air intake boot for cracks. One more thing to look at is your isc (Idle Speed Control) motor. If those all check out ok, it does sound like the fuel pump could be on the way out.

A follow-up. I took it in as I also had a window issue and wanted a couple recalls taken care of. Bottom line - Lose battery cable. They tightend the cable and spent all day trying to get it to do the stall/threatend stall thing and couldn't make it happen. I've had it back about a week now with many starts and I haven't had even a hint of the problem yet.

Battery cables definetly need to be tight. :) I am glad to hear that it is working again.
