2001 GMC Sierra increase hard starting

01 gmc 8.1 litre, increased hard starting will crank ten times , then rest, ten more, then rest , then will fire under normal cold starting. after hot seems to overload at idle and can smell fuel

Sounds like a blown fuel pressure regulator> should be on the fuel rail with a vacuum line to the intake. remove vacuum line at reg and if any fuel is present replace the reg
