It sounds as if there is an exhaust leak when I first start the engine but then the noise quietens as the engine heats up. I read online that there has been a problem with the exhaust manifold bolts and wondered if this was the cause of the noise.

HI there,

Remove any heat shields from the exhaust manifolds, check foe black carbon stains, start up and use a length of hose as a stethoscope and listen around all bolts and flanges and gaskets, if there is a leak this will pick it up easily, start here.
