Recently my fuel pump went out and I replaced fuel pump, filter and spark plugs on my 2000 Sierra. It was running fine, although I did notice a slight hesitation when going uphill. If you hit the gas peda, l then it accelerated appropriately and went along strongly. Two months later(summer) I was driving for long periods during hot days and it just shut off on me. This has happened three times in the past week and only when I am driving for extended periods. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have to let it cool off before you can start it again?

That would be a classic sign of part of the ignition system failing.

It seems that the longer you wait, the better your cvhances are of starting car, although, one of the times it stalled it started up within three minutes.

I'm still leaning towards ignition system stuff,

but I also want you to check the connectors that the fuel pump relay plugs into in the fuse box under the hood.

Actually, the onme time it started right awawy was when I pulled off fuel pump relay and replaced it with the horn relay (*same number) and it started right up. Horn still worked also, which told me it was not relay. It still stalled later.

The fuel pump relay doesn't go bad.

The connectors in the fuse box, that the spades of the relay plug into.
They get hot and loose their "spring-iness" and don't make good contact with the relay.

It's worth a look.
