My 1997 GMC Sierra has trouble starting. There is plenty of battery power and the plugs are good, but need to spray starting fluid or put battery charger on boost to start. I changed the in line fuel filter and wondered if there is a fuel filter in the carburator. The engine is a 5.7 Vortex.

Based on your description, it sounds like one of two things, either weak spark from the ignition, or you still have a fuel problem. Since you replace the fuel pump and it still happens, my guess is you have a weak coil, crank sensor, or ignition module.

As far as the fuel filter, there is nothing in the injection. Let me know if the check engine light has come on.
