My '96 GMC 1500 has a rebuilt automatic transission with around 60,000 miles on it. The issue is that when the truck is in gear there is a scraping noise. When I put the truck in neutral or park the sound goes away. The transmission has been serviced about 20,000 miles ago. The fluid looks good and is at a good level. Ideas?

Do you hear the sound when the vehicle isn't moving?

Yes, as long as the vehicle is in gear. In neutral or park there is no noise.

It sounds like an internal problem. It could have to do with the clutch packs. I hate to say it, but I think you need to see a trans tech with this. It isn't a sensor, solenoid, or electrucal issue.

I wish I had better noise, but that is what it sounds like to me.
