My GMC Safari 1996 turns off randomly when I stop

What can be wrong? I currently changed the gas pump that is all I have done to it and yesterday I was in the freeway going around 60 mph and it wanted to turn off but instead there was some sort of explosion in the exhaust and fire came out. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you have a Vortec engine I suspect the fuel pressure regulator. Sadly it is a part of the injector system that is under the intake manifod and a bit pricy. I hope I am wrong but the backfire is a lean condition. Good luck
