I have a 1990 GMC Safari that suddenly lost all electrical power and died on the road last night. I need to repair it in the most cost effective efficient way possible. Would a bad alternator be the only cause of this problem?

no check your current from the alternator to your starter it could be your fussible link that went out on you with a test light check for current on all the links before and after the fusible link
