which side is the drive axle on a 2000 safari. Tyhe driveshaft and universal joint turn the gears in the differential turn but the wheels don't turn. I do hear some noise in left wheel. Is that the side that the van go?

most likely the spider gears broke inside. to break anything else you would have had to go over a 60 foot jump

I opened the Differential and observed that all the gears inside turn when the van is placed in reverse or drive. I can hear noise from the left wheel. does that mean it could be the axle or does it still indicate the spider gear?

ive never in my life seen a axle break. look closely inside the center piece of rear end you will see 4 smaller gears, the axle might have stripped inside one of the side gears.
