1997 GMC Safari fuel pump problems

van stopped running, and was diagnosed by a dealership as a faulty fuel pump. I purchased a fuel pump from an auto parts store, and replaced the old pump. The van will crank but will not start, I've check connections, relays, etc. Can a clogged fuel filter be the culprit?

Verify if the new fuel pump is producing the correct fuel pressure, inspect the fuel filter-if both good-check for injection pulses. No pulses =No fuel
