1996 GMC Safari

I am trying to remove rear head rests on a 1996 GMC Safari van in order to correctly install child safety seats. The headrests are adjustable but I can't find a button or lock release mechanism that will allow them to be fully removed.

I'm pretty sure they are not removable as strange as that sounds. I ran into one not too long ago that it turned out that way.

I'd give the dealer a call and talk to parts first to find out if they are purchasable separately. IF they are, ask them to fax an exploded view to you and it should reveal how, if it is. You'll need the last 8digits of the VIN when you call.
