1994 GMC Safari Engine runs very rough - hardly even starts

The engine was running fine before I disconnected two of the spark plug wires from the distributor cap to allow me to get to a broken heater hose connector on the intake manifold. After I fixed the hose problem, I put the wires back in the wrong places and cranked it for a while trying to start it. Now I've got them straight, but it's very difficult to start, and when it does start it runs like the timing is screwed-up. Could I have caused a problem by getting two wires (cylinders 4 and 6) backwards at first?

they should have messsed anything up, dependent on how long you drove it like that and if you noticed poor driveablility, if it wasnt firing properly it could have been not grounding out and eventually destorying the coil.
