1988 GMC S15 Tail and brake lights

1988 GMC S15 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

All my tail lights and my brake lights stopped working at the same time. It isn't a fuse, and I'm not sure what a good next place to look is. I've been told it's most likely a short, but how do I handle that?

Check the ground circuit and also the turn and hazard switch
