1984 GMC S15 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 125.00 miles

When the engine is running, the tachometer pegs out no mater what speed. Is there a resistor in the line between the tach and distributor

the Tach Filter is on the white wire from coil/distributor to guage display ... on wiring diagram it show's it close to the coil .. this doesn't mean it is that close ???
