Trans wont shift out of 1st

I have a 1986 s-10 p/u with 160.000 miles. It started shifting hard and suddenly wouldnt shift out of first gear. It is a 2.8 automatic w/overdrive.

I used to have a 1993 Chevy that did the same thing. It turned out to be the low gear silinoid (however you spell that). Im not an expert but it is cheaper than a new transmission so it may be worth looking at.
