I have an oldsmobile 88 delta 88 royal with 205,645 miles. At first it would have trouble going after it was at a complete stop, now no matter what gear it's in it won't go at all. What's wrong? Is it the trans? If not, what is it?

Hummm, I think you have a torque converter that is "locked up" and won't release. This give a solid connection between the engine and transmisision.

There is a clutch in the torgue converter that is sent a 12 v signal from the computer to lock up and act as an overdrive over about 40 mph.

Locate the purple wire that is connected to your brake light switch ( above an behind the brake pedal) Cut the wire and put a piece of tape on it.

The brake switch is supposed to un lock the converter. With out power from the purple wire it will never lock up and you should be able to drive it.

If it is still locked put it from D to R with a little engine RPM amd it should release with a clunk noise.

Yes, you can drive the car but not on long trips. You shoud have the converter replaced. Don't forget to connect the purple wire when you have it fixed.

Let me know and Good Luck.
