I HAVE A 2000 ELDORADO ETC WITH 110, 00 MILES.
I HAD TO REPLACE THE RESERVOIR ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO. NOW I NOTICE THERE IS GREASE
DOWN CLOSE TO THE WHEEL ON THE PASSENGER FRONT.
TOOK IT TO THE ONLY CADILLAC DEALER/REPAIR SHOP ON THIS ISLAND. THEY ADVISED ME TO REPLACE CV JOINT. PARTS 800 PLUS. AND LABOR 2 -3 HRS?
OR
HE SAID WE COULD DRIVE IT UNTIL IT QUIT WORKING AND THEN REPLACE IT?
I GUESS.I AM CONFUSED. SEEMS EXTREMELY HIGH. AND WHAT KIND OF DAMAGE CAN I DO BY "DRIVING IT TIL IT QUITS"
IS MY WHEEL GOING TO FALL OFF?
ALOHA!

The grease you are seeing is what comes out of the CV joint boot. Some auto parts houses sell a "split-boot" that can be installed without removing the CV joint. You remove the old boot including the holding straps and install the split boot, being sure to put lots of grease in the new boot. Once the old boot loses its grease, water and dirt will get in the CV joint and will eventually cause a failure. This failure is not immediate and you will probably hear all types of grinding and popping noises before the joint finally gives way.
