Need some advise

I own a 1994 Caprice Classic 9C1. Recently I have been having issues with the vehicle cooling down properly. Temperature gauge reads high (Close to Red) when I am in traffic.

My cooling fans along with the relays do work. I have tested each relay (2) and the fans independantly. They are all fuctioning according to the trouble shorting tests I have done.

My coolant is new, my thermostat is less than 6 months old, all hose are in perfect shape. Car has no external or internal leaks and no coolant is being lost.

I need some advise on what I should be trouble shooting next. I find myself handy but am at a loss on this situation. :(

May sound silly but check for debris in the grille area.

Don't feel bad everyone on my dept that drives a chevy has the same issues. When summer hits the ac never works either. They have never been able to get it fixed and i've had a chevy for 8 years. There may be 3 on our dept that don't run hot.

I have seen guys put in a manual override for the fans.

A switch under the dash for high and low can really help keep the pwrtrain under the critical temperature before the thermostat kicks in.

A great tool for city driving.

Suggested Repair

Inspect the grille area for debris that could restrict airflow and cause high temperature readings in traffic.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 1994 Caprice Classic 9C1 reports the temperature gauge running near the red zone in traffic. The cooling fans and relays have been tested and work, the coolant and thermostat are recent, the hoses are in good condition, and there are no leaks or coolant loss. The expert recommends checking the grille area for debris. Other users mention similar Chevrolet cooling issues and a manual fan-override switch as a city-driving workaround.
