Check Engin Light Reset

I'm making some repairs on my 97 Catera. Can someone tell me the best way to reset the Check Engin Light? I'm been told to simply disconnect the battery terminals, wait a few minutes and then reconnect them. Is this correct or is there a better way?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

If you disconect the battery you will clear all the codes stored on your computor. Disconnect it overnight if you can, this will erase all the memory. A short disconnection will sometimes not clear it.
If you have problems with your car, it will start to store new codes and the Service light will come on again.
