Info: 1992, Buick Regal Custom, 3.1, Mileage variable

Before I begin, a quick background on the vehicle; The engine started having some major problems around 150k, developed oil leaks, and eventually loosened a rod that knocked around like there was no tomorrow. Since there was no easy fix for all the problems it was picking up, we decided to refit it with a new engine, and opted for a salvage rebuild, since we weren't too sure what condition the rest of the car's internals were in.

The rebuild was dropped in about three months ago, and it initially had a few transmission problems, but those were worked out in pretty short order. I hadn't taken the vehicle out on the highway until a couple weeks ago, and it felt that after awhile, the engine was running pretty hot. I know that if the vent selector switch is set to hotter air, some is bound to leak through, but it seemed like an abnormal amount of heat was coming in from around the floorboards. On my way back into town, the service engine indicator came on about 3 or 4 miles outside of the city limits, and remained until I was back at my house and the car was shut off. I drove it again later that evening, just to see if the indicator persisted, but it was no longer showing any problems. I drove regularly in town for the next week, no problems seemed apparent, though when I once again took the car out on the road, the same problem occured, this time a little farther out, but the indicator was gone again the next day.

Unfortunately, the model of car is not ODB2 compatible, so a friend of mine briefly sholwed me how to pull manual fault codes from the main terminal by connecting the two rightmost top terminal pins. I initially recieved two error codes, "12" and "32, " though he warned me that some codes may not be stored, and would only be given when a specific problem is occuring, or certain conditions like engine temperature have been met.

I haven't been able to track down what these manufacturer codes actually indicate, so I've no way of telling what the car says is the problem. That's obviously my first question, as to what they actually translate into. Secondly, though, once someone's able to identify them, does it seem to satisfy the description of the problems I was having? I should hope that with a rebuild, everything would have been in working order, and even if it isn't, I have a fairly healthy warranty plan on it. The one suggestion I have is that it may be linked to a sensor problem, since many rebuilds use older, worn sensors since there isn't much way of telling what condition they are in or when they might give up the ghost.

Hopefully, I've given you enough information to go on, though I'll be frequently checking back for any questions or responses. Thanks in advance for any assistance you might be able to provide. :)

Your diagnostic system is working fine the number "12" is the indicator and NOT a trouble code.
The only code that the system brought up was the number"32".
You have to look in a Buick Shop Manual for the year of your car to find out what this code means. Hope this helps.
