1998 Other GMC Models only goes into reverse

Transmission problem
1998 Other GMC Models V8 All Wheel Drive Automatic

installed a rebuilt 350 trubo short throw automatic transmission and an existing np203 transfer case. 10 quarts of new ATF into trans, new gear oil into transfer case. Started and drove the jeep in hi loc with the front tires disengaged, ran fine. then tried to shift the transfer case and got alittle smoke, could not determine ware from and some noise. Did not force anything while engine was running. Now, it will only go into reverse. please help.

I think if the trans bolts directly to the transfer case, it uses ATF, not gear oil. You better check just to be sure.
