l have a 1993 GMC Jimmy. When l push the botton for it to go into 4 wheel drive the lights flash and then l hear a buzzing noise around the glove box. But it does not go into 4 wheel drive. I took it to a mechanic and he did a computer scan and said it was the actuator motor on the trasfer case. So we changed it and it still doesn't work.

What is wrong with it and how do I fix it?
Is there actually a problem with the actuator motor or is it something else?

Thanks,
Jack

could it be a buzzing sound like a relay not working properly, or does it sound more like a door buzzer?

not saying that it is a door buzzer just trying to figure out what kind of sound it is.

Discussion summary

4 wheel drive

The owner of a 1993 GMC Jimmy reported flashing indicators and buzzing near the glove box when selecting four-wheel drive, without engagement. A mechanic attributed the problem to the transfer-case actuator after a scan, but replacing it did not restore operation.

Reported outcome: Four-wheel drive remained inoperative after the actuator replacement. No later resolution was reported.

The scan results were not supplied. A reply asked about the character of the buzzing; it did not establish a failed relay or another confirmed cause.
