1998 GMC Jimmy engine aint turning over

1998 GMC Jimmy 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

i recently installed a new (used) 4.3 in my gmc jimmy and it dont turn over so I take the starter out n check it and it works fine so I hook it up to the starter wires while it aint installed in the motor n it works fine but when installed it dont turn the motor over I was wondering if I possible installed the flywheel backwards would this be possible

Welcome, can you turn the crank by hand? When you ran the starter, did it kick out the pinion gear and spin? All voltage and ground circuits good. Sometimes the engine may have a chassis ground going to it?

Yes the pinion gear came out n I have been able to turn it over by hand n it turns over easy n all the grounds are hooked up properly

Can you tell if there is a load on the starter circuit, key in the crank position. Watch the dome lite, dash lite or something, there should be a reaction. If voltage and ground for the starter is good, and no starter action, sounds like the starter.

Is there a dust cover under the flywheel, can you remove the dust cover and see the starter pinion gear engage the flywheel?

There is a load on the starter it seem's like it want's to start but it dont want to that is why I am wondering if I put the flywheel on proper like if it is backwards is it possible

Remove the dust cover, under the flywheel, see if the gear engages.
