1997 GMC Jimmy Break Booster?

1997 GMC JIMMY

The break pedal is extremely hard to push. When it's pushed the engine idles rough and eventually stalls. If I disconnect the vacuum hose from the booster and block the hose, the engine runs fine. Am I correct in assuming I need a new booster?
