I am replacing the timing chain and spockets (have never been replaced) because of random misfires. When installing the crankshaft sproket, how can I tell if it is 'seated' properly?

Thanks for the donation

this requires a special service tool.. use service tool number J-5590, or equivalent crankshaft sprocket installation tool, and a hammer to drive the crankshaft sprocket onto the crankshaft, without disturbing the position of the engine.

I understand how to "push" the gear back on. What I do not know is how far on the crankshaft the gear needs to go.

You have to push the sprocket until it is fully seated on the flange of the crankshaft nose, you will fill it "bottom out" when it is seated properly.
