just changes fuel and filter, car now shakes when idling, smells like gas, and the SERVICE ENGINGE SOON light has come on.

Have the engine light codes pulled at a local auto parts store.

Sounds like it is struggling to receive gas. Probably due to air in the system after replacing filter.

I suggest turning the key On And OFF five or six times,not actually starting the car when doing this though. This will allow the fuel pump to run and pump the air out of the system. Let the key stay on for about 10 seconds each time you turn in to ON position.
