1994 GMC Jimmy throttle position sensor

Having trouble- car starts fine, but won't go past 2 MPH. All kinds of tests by mechanic and my husbands work mechanic ( big trucks) the gerenal opinion seems to be a new throttle position sensor.
Can you give me some general info assuming this is the problem, and what to do from here?

I am assuming the engine stalls at 2 mph--this very well may be the TPS sensor. However there is usually a trouble code that causes your check engine light to come on, but with a TPS sensor, this is not always the case. Is the light on?
In any case, replacing these sensors is pretty easy. I would see if you can have it tested at autozone or a place like that first. If Autozone can test it, they will do it for free. The TPS sensor is located on the opposite side to where the throttle cable connects on the throttle body. It is connected to the throttle shaft on the body. It has a round 3-wire connector. There are two small torx headed screws that attatch it to the throttle body. I am sure you or your husband can replace this very easily. Removing the air cleaner duct makes this job easier..let me know how you make out..

Is there a check engine light? If so what is the code? Is this engine a vortec? and does it have TBI fuel injection or CPI injection? The way to tell is simple. If you have an air filter that is round- like the old carburator air cleaners it's a TBI. If the air filter that is like a big cylinder and is mounted at the beginning of an air duct system then it is a CPI. Let me know--we'll fix this unit!
