2004 GMC Envoy rear hatch lock mechanism

numerous times, but not every time, the rear hatch is inoperable. It will not "unlock" with either the keyfob or the unlock button on drivers door. There is 2 electrical units inside the rear gate (pn15206805) that is an electrical distrubution modue, also on the lock mechanism itself (pn 1?504151)
could one of these need replacing and if so, which?

it might be but clean your battery cables first- you'll have to reset everything after doing this. Also when you do get it opened up , try lubing the latch as that can cause it as well. Lube it with spray white grease if you can
