The low beams quit working. High beams work fine, but when you switch to low beams they just shut off. park lights and fog lights are still on though.

check the relay and fuse under the fuse panel under hood. it'a s big rectangular thing you'll see it. it should be marked what is what on the inside top.

Read the guide below on testing relays

Bad connections, corrosion, or a bad switch are all suspects. Where the sockets corroded when you changed the bulbs? Since both lights are out I would test the switch to make sure it is working. Look for any loose connections.

Both low beams would not work after I started the car last night. Only the high beams would work. When the high/low beam control would be placed in the low beam position there were no lights at all.

Do you have a multi meter to do some testing? Also a scan from a professional scan tool that can read all the computers would really help. Not a diyer scan tool or auto parts scanner They can't read all the computers. Also get me the exact code numbers you have not code descriptions?

My low beam headlights on my GMC Envoy cut out . What could be causing this? My fog lights, parking lights, and high beam headlights works fine except for the low beam headlights.

this cold be a relay, ground or light bulbs themselves in the headlights. Check your underhood electrical center for a bad relay. if the under hood center cover doesn't list the relays then your owners handbook should......

Hello –

To better assist you is your model just the Envoy or the XLK? Also what is your engine size in liter?

Not trying to insult you….just making sure you and I are on the same page……..are you sure both light bulbs are still good?

Next, I show fuses 3 and 6 are 10amp for the low beams and fuses 5 and 2 are 10 amp for the high. You did check them with an ohm meter and they are good……….

Next, I also see Relay number 46 is a relay for the low beams. Have you checked that?

Hello - Hey one other thing while I have you on the line............. Also, it looks like you may have some recalls on your vehicle. The dealer may fix these for free. Please contact the dealer service department, give them the VIN number of your car and have them check on these to see if they apply to you.

Electrical problem
2000 GMC Envoy 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive 150000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
the low beam hid headlight went out. fuses are ok .
the cost of repair parts for this is 900.00 for ignitor & balast. obviously this is insane for one headlight. can this headlight system be replaced reasonably by a more conventional halogen system safely. the high beams are halogen, and there are plenty of housings from that style of jimmys and blazers.
thank you

Not sure on that one... never heard of someone going from HID to regular lights. Might want to compare the wiring diagram for the two differnet trucks, dont see why it wouldnt work, all of the HID stuff is located in the housing.

There is a wiring harness in the steering column that controls the daytime running lights, it is most likely that this is the cause of that problem, these wires are known for breaking because of the tilt wheeel. I assume you checked the fuses in the car and under the hood first!

follow your headlight harness backwards and see if the ground is loose for the headlight. It usually what is causing this. Clean it and tighten it up see if it helps if not it may have a bad connection and you'll have to see if it is making contact or not or slipped out of the connector. Also make sure not to buy bulbs made in china as theya re inferior to even bulbs made in Mexico. If they are brand name it's ok as they have been made to their specs...

The high beam indicator stays on and when you turn the vehicle off the headlights take a long time to dim out.

During the night time driving, I have lost my headlights. Usually when this happens, the bright head lamps still work, but not always. This has happened about 6 times. When I took it for an inspection, it failed. The technician would not pass inspection on it and told me it was the dimmer switch. Since then, I have had it in the shop with 2 different GMC certified dealerships and they say that until it does what it does while they have the car in the shop, they cannot order a part until they witness what is happening. What is this, the dimmer switch or a short? The problem always goes away and the lights eventually come back on, but this has to be fixed as it is dangerous! Any suggestions as to what to tell the mechanic as the Envoy is currently back in the shop. Still waiting for the problem to act up while they have it in their possesion!

ther are fuses a nd relays for the headlights in your underhood fuse box. there are 4 fuses and 2 relays . As this happens occasionally i would try those things first before saying it is a switch. especially since you say they eventually come back on. you can do this yourself just by replacing the parts. You should be able to get them at an auto parts store. they will be marked in your underhood fusebox where they are when you look on the cover after it's off. I'llinclude a headlight diagram picture that you should be able to enlarge.

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy and the right headlight burned out. When I replaced the bulb it only worked infrequently ( I used replacement bulb 9006). Upon closer examination I noticed the clip on the bulb was brown/black. Could the wrong bulb cause this? Could the clip burn out over time? Can I replace the clip only or do I have to replace the whole headlight assembly?

If the problem is the electrical connector, yes, you can replace the connector? When the problem is ongoing, did you check for voltage and ground at the connector. If you wiggle the connector, does it make any difference?

When I wiggled one of the wires on the connecter it would cause the light to go on or off. The headlight had remained on until this happened.
