2002 GMC Envoy Rear air spring problems

I have a 2002 Envoy that the rear compressor started sounding very bad and running more than it used to, now it wont raise the rear of the truck at all. Is there a good DYI way to test the compressor after it is off the truck before I buy a new one for $$$$$$$?
