2002 GMC Envoy 119000 miles

I have a 2002 gmc envoy and it has a fairly loud whinning noise which seems to be coming from the power steering pump. It is much louder when it is cold out. It also whines louder as the rpms increase during acceleration. It does not steer hard or whine any more or less when I turn. Could it be the bearing in the pump or something else?

Other than checking the fluid level and pressure and return lines for leaks, you would have to remove it.

It could also be a bad belt, or contaminated belt (oil, coolant). Also watch tensioner for excessive movement when engine is running. If excessive movement, then the tensioner may be the problem.
