GMC Jimmy melting down

Someone,

My 2000 GMC Jimmy is revving up when I drive it but the acceleration does not kick in all the way. The rpm stays between 3500 and 4000. It eventually gets faster but does not maintain its speed? I had recently changed my fuel pump, could this be the problem?
