1993 GMC C3500 V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

truck starts and runs great at idle above 2grand it misses bad and backfires through the exhust the longer you run it the worse it gets till it won't run at all

you may have a pluged catalytic converter, how much exhaust is coming out of the tailpipe? can you put your hand over at and stop it fairly easy?
