1972 gmc 3/4 ton pickup

i have a 1972 gmc3/4 ton longhorn pickup that just drinks gas. the carb is set to specs the timing is on however it constantally pings it is a 350 eng with a 350 trans can you help it is also a 4 barrel carb and i dont drive it hard

Are you overheating? Find the EGR take it out and clean it and make sure its. Inoperative EGR will cause your engine to detonate/ping.

If it has a knock sensor check that out too.
