Altenator not keeping a charge

I have a 95 gmc 1500 serria with a 5.7 V8 and the altenator when I turn the air on high and have my subs going it kicks down to about 12 on my gauge what would cause this problem

Try replacing the alt to batt wire with a larger gauge, I needed this after installing subs in my yukon. The small factory wire wasnt supplying the battery with sufficiant power. Hope this helps!
