Will a dealer charge for using the code scanner to check engine light on? If so what is the best scanner
to but?

Some of the national brand autostores will check some codes for free.

A code reader will only show codes, not live engine data.

A scanner will read codes and show live engine data. Some manufacturers do call a reader a code scanner.

Yes, I believe the dealership will charge for diagnostics/hooking up a scanner.

A high-end scanner that will show codes and live engine data can sell for several K.

If you just want a code reader, they cost less.
