Which transmission does your truck have?My first guess would be a 4l60e.and a common problem with these is for the sprag clutch to wear out. This sometimes will allow the vehicle to be shifted through the first 2 gears manually, but disables automatic shifting.Or it could possibly be a valve body problem, either way,it needs the love and care of a transmission repair facility. And depending on the mileage of the truck, they will most likely tell you that the transmission needs a full rebuild, instead of just repairing the problem.Which makes sense,as you only want to disassemble it once.
