2000 GMC C1500 Once heating is at MAX, heat knob doesn't wo

When I first start the truck, the heat control knob will allow me to heat the cab. Once I turn the knob to it's mid position, turning the knob to "full cold" doesn't do a thing. Is this control electronic, or run on vacuum? How would I go about fixing this problem?
