1998 GMC C1500 Truck dies when gas pedel is applied to go.

The truck starts fine and runs great but there are times it acts up. When I place it in drive and apply the gas pedel it dies and seems to loss all power, the clock is wacked on time and then I will restart it right away and all is fine. I'm not sure if the battery is shorting out or if the alternator is going bad or if it is something else. I do have a remote car starter and I am going to disconnect it because the drivers door lock is tring to unlock at times while driving down the road. Not sure if this is the root of all its evil, but, I am looking for other ideas on this issue. I really like electrical problems when they come and go since you can never put a good finger on it right away, but I know it will let me down somewhere out of the way and snowy cold all around. Any help would be great, thanks.

Welcome to the forum, thanks for the donation. Your correct, intermittent problems can be difficult to track. How long since a tune-up? Use a gage and check fuel pressure. Spider fuel systems are known for problems. I don't know if injector cleaner in the tank will help, if that is the issue? The cleaning procedures in bulletins are shop procedures. I'm not saying the problem is fuel related, just possibilities.

I replaced the spider two years ago. I had a problem just after replacing the intake gasket. This the very problem that I was concerned about when I changed the gasket so I had to go back at it and replace the spider. The problem seems to be related to the electrical since all power is lost and the clock on the radio is way off after this and the lights were very dim and as soon as I turned off the ignition and it restarted everything was fine. I was wondering if the ignition switch could be bad. It acts like a major short and kills all power, or the computer? I am lost to this one for now. Thanks. Mark

Ok, It may be the ignition switch. When the problem occurs, check ignition fuse A and ignition fuse B in uderhood fuse block, they supply voltage to the ignition switch, red wires at the switch connector.

I found the problem after I tried to leave work and my truck would not start at all. I ask someone to get me a new battery and he brought it in to me that same day. So, the problem was the positive terminal was very badly corroded and needed some major cleaning on the wire that feeds the main fuse block and computer. It appears to made of copper and just very bad hard green crust. I cleaned it up very good and put some no-oxide grease on it and put in the new battery even thogh there was nothing wrong with the old one, but it was as old as the truck 1998. Thanks for the help and put this one in the memory back for future use. Mark
