1998 GMC C1500 cruise control problem

my cruise control started to work seldomly and now never.fuse is ok.how can i troubleshoot this and find the problem part to replace????

i can tell you from experience that when this happens its almost always the switch on the steering column causing the problem. there are tiny wires going to it and over time they break. to test at the base of steering column use a test light to ground and see if it will light when you hit each button.
